It can seem like hiring a virtual assistant is the “it” thing to do these days. Everyone is talking about how you’ll increase your revenue, your list size, and your influence if you hire a VA. But there’s one benefit of hiring a VA that seems to be missing from the conversation — a VA can benefit you emotionally. And that’s what I want to talk about today. As someone who has been a VA for almost two years, and who has their own VA, I’ve seen firsthand what a difference having that support there makes in my clients’ emotional well-being.
1. Your business has a built in support system
I’m starting with the BIG one, y’all. When you hire a VA to come in and help you in your business, you’re building in a support system. Not only for your business operations, but for yourself. A good VA will check in with you and make sure you aren’t doing things that they should be doing. They’ll see how you’re doing, business-wise but also mentally.
And having that kind of support is really invaluable. Because your VA is there to cheer you on, to be a sympathetic ear, and to drastically ease your overwhelm and stress. Maybe you’re in the spot where I was two months ago when I hired my own VA. Are doing so much that you’ve literally hit a wall? And trying to do anything makes you want to curl up in bed and cry?
But after I hired my VA? I felt incredibly supported, and like my emotional well-being was on its way to being re-balanced. Just knowing that she’s there helps me feel incredibly supported.
2. You aren’t having to keep everything in your head
When you’re trying to keep everything you need to do for your business inside of your head, it can really contribute to feeling panicked, overwhelmed, and stressed. But one of the things that will happen when you hire a VA is sitting down and getting everything into a project management system, whether you use Asana or Trello or Wrike or something else.
Putting everything into one place, that you both can access, will allow you to get everything out of your head and will ease the weight of trying to remember every single little thing for your business. Your VA will be able to help you figure out what is important, what they should be doing, and what you should be doing.
Having that kind of support and having everything put into a place that’s external is going to truly help you feel more emotionally stable when it comes to your business.
3. You can step away when you need to and know that your business is going to be okay
The thing about being a business owner is that you can’t be “on” all the time, and your emotional state is going to vary day to day. But when you’re sacrificing your emotional well-being to crank out one more blog post or to stay up until two in the morning working on that client’s project because you feel like you have to — that’s not good.
Hiring a VA will give you the space and permission you need to walk away for an afternoon or a day if you need to because your emotions are on a rollercoaster. They’ll be able to take care of the day-to-day operations of your business so you can feel confident stepping back to nourish yourself when you need to.
